EnVINTA Launches Energy Challenger - Online Energy Management Product for Mid-Sized C&I Customers

When it comes to energy efficiency programs around the world, mid-sized and smaller C&I customers are often overlooked.  EnVINTA has now released “Energy Challenger™” which allows utilities to deliver something of real value to these customers, without needing to employ extra sales representatives.  It is an interactive application that helps customers to self-assess and prioritize their energy needs, and then link these priority needs with solutions – either information, or links to products/services (which can either be from the utility/agency or from 3rd party providers).  It also helps utilities / agencies to gain market intelligence on customer needs based on customer responses.

Three energy retailers (Contact Energy, Mercury Energy and Meridian Energy) are already seeing positive results from their rollout of Energy Challenger to mid-sized accounts they serve. In the first month since launching the Energy Challenger to mid-sized C&I customers, 70 of Contact Energy’s customers have already used the tool. “Energy Challenger is a simple, quick and convenient way for our business customers to take control of their energy consumption and better manage their energy costs,” says Contact Energy sales and marketing manager Cory Franklin.  “Many of the energy efficiency recommendations are low or no-cost and will not only help to lower the power bill but can do much to improve comfort, productivity and safety”.

According to Envinta CEO Mark McGough , “Energy Challenger is an easy-to-use energy analysis diagnostic tool that enables utilities to provide a clear indication to their customers that they are responsive to customers’ energy management needs.  We found that the best customer-focused US utilities have been looking for an interactive solution like this to serve their mid-sized customers,” added McGough.

For example, Contact Energy’s mid-sized customer, Pacific Wallcoverings, piloted Energy Challenger and found that “Energy Challenger is an excellent management tool. It showed us that we are managing our energy consumption well but, because of the depth of advice it offers, we got some further suggestions to improve efficiency,” says Pacific Wallcoverings’ manufacturing manager Neil MacDonald.  As a result of using Energy Challenger, Pacific Wallcoverings has incorporated energy efficiency into its purchasing policy so all buyers for the company use energy efficiency as a buying determinant.  

The Energy Challenger program targets mid-sized C&I customers who would typically spend between $10,000 - $500,000 p.a. on energy. The standard product has different question sets for commercial/institutional and industrial users.
